Making Snow Mountain

Snow in Atlanta. How can it be? Using state-of-the-art technology, water is borrowed from Stone Mountain Lake to make Snow Mountain. Specialized equipment pumps water from the recreational lake directly to a water filtration plant. Here, the water is treated to what is known as potable standards. This makes it suitable for people.

Once treated, the water is then introduced to Stone Mountain Park’s snow-making machines. These machines, used at ski resorts throughout the world, chill the water until it becomes snow!

As the snow melts, it is redirected back to Stone Mountain Lake via a custom-designed drainage system.
